Getting Pregnant

Getting Pregnant

When one decides the time is right to have a baby, it helps to know what to do to make sure one is successful. There are so many myths and misconceptions about getting pregnant, that a lack of immediate success can lead to stress and dismay that in most cases is quite uncalled for.

The first thing to realize is that getting pregnant is a problem for only a few people, and unless you have been diagnosed as being unable to conceive, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be successful at having a child. Know also, that you may not be able to fix an exact timetable for getting pregnant.

That said, there are various methods and aids you can employ to increase the chances of getting pregnant. These include:

  • Checking your body temperature and cervical fluids every day to know what stage of your cycle you are at, at any given time. If your cycle is regular and you become familiar with your body’s changes, you can reasonably figure out your most fertile period.

  • Making love often after your menstrual cycle ends up until around 10 days before the next period.

  • Using Ovulation predictors which can be purchased from the pharmacy. These let you know when the egg is about to be released.

Consult your medical advisor about six months before you plan to conceive to know what will work best for you.

Let your love-making be spontaneous. Don’t get obsessed to the point where your relationship gets affected because you and/or your partner feel compelled ‘to perform’ in order to conceive.

The main thing is to not get stressed about getting pregnant. It has been found that women who are relaxed and have stopped worrying about getting pregnant have improved their chances of conceiving.
